Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946) is an American painter celebrated for his vivid and expressive depictions of the American landscape, animals, and portraits. As the third generation of a distinguished artistic family that includes his father Andrew Wyeth and grandfather N.C. Wyeth, Jamie has carved his own path with a unique blend of realism and surrealism. Born and raised in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and spending much of his time in Maine, his work is deeply rooted in the environments, people and dogs he knows intimately.

Wyeth began painting as a child, training under his aunt Carolyn Wyeth, and was exhibiting professionally by his teens. His early works showcased his keen observation skills and a mature grasp of light and shadow, which would become hallmarks of his style. Throughout his career, Wyeth has explored a wide array of subjects, from iconic portraits of figures like John F. Kennedy and Andy Warhol to evocative seascapes and haunting depictions of wildlife.

Wyeth’s art transcends the boundaries of traditional realism, often incorporating elements of whimsy and fantasy. His bold use of color and dynamic compositions invite viewers into a world that is at once familiar and extraordinary, reflecting a deeply personal vision of America.

The Wyeth works in this exhibition depict his fondness for dogs. Many of his pets were the subject of paintings that are featured in his book Dog Days, published for his 2007 exhibition, Dog Days of Summer: Works by Jamie Wyeth.
